What is Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific and evidence-based therapy that focuses on the principles of learning and behavior to bring about meaningful and positive change. It helps individuals, most commonly those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), to acquire new skills and reduce behaviors that interfere with their learning and daily functioning.
-
How does ABA Therapy work?
ABA works by systematically analyzing the relationship between a behavior and the environment. Our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) break down complex skills into small, teachable steps. We then use positive reinforcement (rewards) to encourage desired behaviors, making it more likely that the individual will use that skill again in the future.
-
Is ABA Therapy effective?
Yes. ABA is recognized by the U.S. Surgeon General, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Psychological Association as the "gold standard" and most effective, evidence-based treatment for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Extensive research shows high success rates in helping individuals achieve greater independence.
-
What specific skills can my child learn through ABA?
ABA therapy is highly individualized, but common areas of focus include: Communication & Language: Developing verbal language, requesting, and expressing needs. Social Skills: Learning to interact with peers, sharing, taking turns, and understanding social cues. Daily Living Skills: Self-care routines like dressing, hygiene, and feeding. Academic & Cognitive Skills: Attention, focus, memory, and following instructions. Behavior Management: Reducing challenging behaviors like aggression, self-injury, or tantrums.
-
When is the best time to start ABA Therapy?
The earlier, the better. Research consistently shows that early intervention (starting between the ages of 2 and 6) yields the best outcomes due to the brain's plasticity. However, ABA principles are effective for individuals of all ages, and treatment is always tailored to meet the current needs of the client, regardless of when they begin.
-
What is the process to enroll my child with Wow ABA Therapy?
Our process is simple and designed to get your child started quickly: Step 1: Contact Us – Call or fill out our online form. Step 2: Verification – We confirm your insurance benefits and required documentation. Step 3: Initial Assessment – A BCBA conducts a comprehensive assessment to establish baseline skills and create a custom treatment plan. Step 4: Start Services – Therapy begins based on the plan, typically within one to two weeks of receiving insurance authorization.
-
Does my child need an Autism diagnosis to receive ABA services?
Yes. To obtain funding and authorization from your insurance provider, you must provide: An official diagnosis report for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) from a qualified professional (e.g., Developmental Pediatrician, Child Psychiatrist, or Licensed Psychologist). A prescription or referral letter from your child's primary care physician (PCP) recommending ABA therapy.
-
How many hours per week will my child need?
The recommended number of hours is determined by the BCBA based on the initial assessment, the severity of behaviors, and the goals in the treatment plan. Intensive, high-quality services often range from 20 to 40 hours per week, but this is always decided on an individual basis to maximize your child's progress.
-
What is the age range of patients you serve?
We proudly serve children, adolescents, and young adults from age 2 up to 18.
-
Will my health insurance cover the cost of ABA Therapy?
Most major insurance carriers in the state of Florida are mandated to cover ABA therapy for ASD. We work with a wide range of providers. Call us today and our team will happily verify your specific benefits and coverage details for you at no cost.
-
Do you have a waiting list for new patients?
We currently do not have a waiting list and are actively accepting new clients. Contact us today to get started!
-
What happens if my insurance only covers a portion of the therapy?
After we verify your benefits, we will clearly communicate any financial responsibilities, such as co-pays, co-insurance, or deductibles. Our goal is to ensure you understand all costs upfront before services begin.
-
Who will be working with my child?
Your child's team is led by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), who creates and oversees the treatment plan. Direct therapy is provided by a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), who works 1:1 with your child under the direct supervision of the BCBA.
-
